Precision Water Jet Cutting for Sunshine Coast Businesses
Queensland Gaskets provides water jet cutting for Sunshine Coast engineers, fabricators, manufacturers and maintenance teams. Every job is cut at our Brisbane facility in Salisbury, where we’ve been manufacturing since 1953.
Water jet cutting uses a high-pressure stream of water, with or without garnet abrasive, to cut accurate profiles from sheet material. It’s a cold process, so there’s no heat-affected zone. That makes it a strong choice when material properties, edge quality or fine detail matter. For more complex parts, we also offer 5-axis water jet cutting.
Two Ways to Cut: Water-Only and Abrasive
We run both water-only and abrasive garnet water jet cutting, so we can match the process to your material. You can browse everything we stock and cut in our materials range.
Water-only cutting suits softer materials, including:
- Rubber
- Foam and sponge
- Cork and felt
- Fibre and non-asbestos gasket material
- Electrical insulation
- EMI/RFI shielding materials
Abrasive garnet cutting handles harder materials, including:
- Steel and other metals
- Laminated shims
- Engineering plastics
- Composites
- Stone and hard sheet products
Our standard tolerance is approximately ±0.2 mm, depending on the material and design. For metals, we can cut sheets up to 2850 mm × 1450 mm, at thicknesses up to 80 mm, with capacity depending on material type.
Water Jet Cutting Applications
Water jet cutting is a practical option for one-off parts, prototypes and repeat production runs. Typical jobs include:
- Custom industrial gaskets and seals
- Metal brackets, flanges and machine components
- Laminated shims and composite parts
- Marine, automotive and transport components
- Mining and industrial wear parts
- Prototype and short-run parts
- Custom profiles for fabrication projects
Because the process can cut intricate shapes and internal cut-outs cleanly, it often reduces the need for secondary finishing.
The Right Process, Not Just the Nearest Machine
Water jet isn’t always the best answer. Depending on your material, thickness, tolerance and quantity, CNC knife cutting, CNC router cutting, laser cutting or press cutting may be more suitable or more cost-effective. We run all of these in-house, so our team can recommend the approach that fits the job. See our CNC cutting service for the Sunshine Coast for more.
