We are thrilled to announce that our Managing Director, Carl Quarterman, has been named a finalist for the Courier-Mail Business Person of the Year at the 2024 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards (LMBA).
The LMBAs, now in their 19th year, celebrate the best and brightest businesses and individuals across a range of industries. “They are the risk-takers, change-markers and disruptors creating opportunities, creating jobs and attracting new investment to drive our economy forward” (BEDA). Being selected as a finalist is a significant achievement, as the LMBAs are known for setting the standard in recognising leaders who are shaping the future of Brisbane.
This recognition highlights Carl’s leadership at Queensland Gaskets and his broader contributions to innovation and growth in Australia’s manufacturing and defence sectors. Under Carl’s direction, Queensland Gaskets has become a leader in precision manufacturing, supplying critical industries such as defence, aerospace, mining, and transport with highly specialised solutions. Through the adoption of quality management systems like ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, he ensured that our processes consistently deliver superior quality and reliability.
Carl has also been instrumental in driving innovation at Queensland Gaskets. He oversaw the acquisition of OSAAP Australia, integrating its progressive technology for custom foam inserts and shadow boards into our operations. This has allowed us to offer highly customised, organised, and protective solutions for industries where precision and safety are paramount. Our ability to innovate and deliver tailored solutions has cemented our position as a trusted supplier to industries with complex needs.
In addition to these innovations, Carl is leading Queensland Gaskets towards embracing advanced manufacturing technologies. By focusing on automation, digitalisation, and sustainable practices, we are on the path to becoming an Industry 4.0 facility, where smart manufacturing will further enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Beyond his role at Queensland Gaskets, Carl has made a significant impact on the broader industry through his leadership of the Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN). As National Chairperson, Carl not only unified the previously independent state chapters into one cohesive national body but also spearheaded a complete rebranding of the organisation. His efforts have strengthened AIDN’s ability to advocate for Australian SMEs in the defence sector, helping local businesses secure vital contracts and play a critical role in enhancing Australia’s sovereign manufacturing capabilities.
Congratulations to the winner – Shaun Munday of Place Design Group! Carl’s recognition in the LMBAs places him alongside other top Brisbane leaders, including Antonia Mercorella (Real Estate Institute of Queensland), Jamie Wilson (Cryptoloc), and Shaun Munday (Place Design Group). These awards celebrate the individuals and businesses driving innovation and economic growth in Brisbane.
We’re incredibly proud to see Carl’s hard work and visionary leadership recognised. His nomination as a finalist underscores the positive impact he’s had on both Queensland Gaskets and the wider business community. Congratulations, Carl!
